Kingsford Teams Up with Folds of Honor to Provide Military Scholarships
November 8, 2013
This Veteran’s Day Weekend, New York’s famed Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will not only play host to the second annual winner-take-all Kingsford Invitational barbecue contest but will also serve as the backdrop for a new partnership between Kingsford and the Folds of Honor Foundation.
In addition to the $50,000 prize that will be awarded to this year’s top BBQ team, Kingsford will also be making a $50,000 donation to the non-profit Folds of Honor Foundation to provide scholarships to the children and spouses of service members killed in action or disabled while protecting our great freedoms.
Competing in the shadows of the Intrepid — a retired aircraft carrier that saw tours of duty in World War II and Vietnam — will be the winners of seven of the most prestigious barbecue contests in the country as well as one team comprised of military veterans competing on behalf of Folds of Honor. In addition, veterans from the New York area will be on hand for the Kingsford/Folds of Honor dedication ceremony while also sampling some of the country’s best barbecue.
“We are proud to have Kingsford as a partner,” said Major Dan Rooney, founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation. “Kingsford is a great example of an iconic American brand that plays an important role in bringing people together with a pastime as simple as grilling. The culture at this type of event not only brings friends and family closer together but also makes new friends feel like old ones.”
